Qualifications

July 1993: School leaving certificate (Maturita’ scientifica) obtained at Liceo "Leonardo da Vinci" in Genova. Final mark 60/60.

September 1998: Honours degree in Physics at the Universita’ degli Studi di Genova; final mark 110/110 e lode. Thesis in surface science:"HREELS study of the reactivity and the electronic excitations of different phases of O/Ag(001)". Supervisor: Prof. Mario Rocca.

February 2002: Ph.D. in physics at the Universita’ degli Studi di Genova. Thesis: "Dynamics of the interaction of oxygen and ethylene with defected Ag(001) and with Ag(410)". Supervisor: Prof. Mario Rocca; external supervisor: Prof. Rodolfo del Sole (Università di Roma 2)

Grants and Positions

April-July 1997: Grant from the Erasmus Project for a period at the Oxford Brookes University, Oxford (GB).

November 1998- October 2001: Grant for Ph.D. students from the Universita’ degli Studi di Genova.

2000-2001: Teaching experience at the Universita' degli Studi di Genova as an assistant to the course of physics for engineers.

January-June 2002: Post-doctoral fellowship from INFM within the frame of the Advanced Research Project ISADORA, for the study of the reactivity of ultrathin MgO and NiO films. Scientific supervisor: Prof. Mario Rocca.

July 2002-June 2003: Guest at the Institut fuer Experimentalphysik of Freie Universitaet, Berlin, in the group of Prof. K.H. Rieder. Research activity: imaging and manipulation of long aromatic molecules by LT-STM.

July 2003-June 2005: Post-doctoral fellowship from Universita' degli Studi di Genova. Research activity: HREELS and Molecular Beam study of the gas-surface interaction in presence of well defined defects. Supervisor: Prof. Mario Rocca.

October 2005-March 2008: Post-doctoral fellowship from Universita' degli Studi di Genova. Research activity: adsorption of simple molecules at ultrathin oxide films investigated by low temperature sTM. Supervisor: Prof. Mario Rocca.

October 2008 - at present: Researcher of IMEM-CNR c/o Dipartimento di Fisica dell'Universita' di Genova.

Awards

2001: Award of the Societa' Italiana di Fisica for the scientific production as a Young Scientist.

2008: Award of the Societa' Italiana di Fisica for the best presentation in the "condensed matter" section during the SIF national Conference 2008 (Genova, 22-27 September).

November 2001: One month at the Interdisciplinary Research Center for Catalysis (ICAT), Technical University of Denmark, Lyngby, DK.

February-March 2004: two weeks at the School of Chemistry, University of St Andrews, St Andrews, Fife, UK.

September 2005: Guest at the Institut fuer Experimentalphysik of the Freie Universitaet, Berlin, in the group of Dr. Francesca Moresco. Funded by CNR through a Short Term Mobility project.
